My approach
Counselling & psychotherapy with me offers a confidential, non-judgemental space in which to explore confused, unsettled or disturbing feelings. The psychodynamic approach acknowledges how recurring patterns and strategies can upset our relationships and outlook. Patterns laid down by earlier experiences which manifest in our unconscious communication, our proclivities and behaviour.
We establish strategies to cope with experiences when we are young. Without the opportunity to revisit these patterns they can become entrenched and present themselves in ways that leave us feeling anxious. Psychodynamic work can identify these patterns through carefully listening to the ways in which thoughts and attitudes are revealed. Making links with their origins provides relief and the opportunity to discover new ways of thinking.
Attending therapy can be challenging and it is a place where solutions are not necessarily initially apparent. Doubt and uncertainty in regard to your circumstance will most likely be reflected in our work together however what therapy provides is a unique atmosphere where your internal world can be thought about safely.
Qualifications & experience
I began my clinical training at Birkbeck University of London, eventually qualifying at Highgate Counselling Centre (UK. Est.1966). I am an accredited member of the BACP - The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I work within and in reference to their ethical and professional guidelines.
Prior to my clinical training I enjoyed a career as a senior executive and people manager. During this time, I found that active listening and more crucially ‘subjective thinking' played a key role in understanding and then developing large teams of people, cross culturally and in a wide range of settings.
I have trained with Place2Be in respect of working with children and young people, and I am Enhanced DBS checked.
I am also actively involved in suicide prevention work and a longstanding member of a National Listening Charity.
