Dr Sarah Heke
HCPC, DClinPsy, BA(Hons)
Consultant Clinical Psychologist
I have worked in the NHS for over 20 years and have experience in varied fields of psychological therapy from acute sexual assault services, HIV and sexual health, to mental health, but always working with clients who have experienced adversity and trauma (or with the professionals who treat them). I believe that this has enhanced my capacity to be responsive to the often varied and complex needs of clients and am very flexible in applying therapy to individuals.
After the completion of my Doctorate at the University of Leicester in 2000 I have been based in London and until recently I was Director at the Institute of Psychotrauma, a specialist psychological therapies service for people with complex PTSD. Specialising in psychological trauma I now supervise the new therapy team for people affected by the Grenfell Tower fire. I have also worked in private practice for the last ten years and have worked with many clients with anxiety problems, depression and relationship difficulties in addition to trauma. I am fully trained in EMDR and have a post graduate diploma in CBT.
I also have a particular interest in working with the medico-legal and criminal justice system and provide expert psychological evidence reports on this basis. I am Secretary of the UK Psychological Trauma Society, Chair of the Royal College of Psychiatry Accreditation Committee for Psychological Therapies and Chair of the Independent Advisory group for child abuse and sexual offences for the Metropolitan Police.
I am registered with the HCPC, BPS, and BABCP and the majority of Healthcare Insurance Providers (currently Axa, Cigna, Vitality Health).
